Elapsed time ‘guess-timations’

With ANZ Sail Fiji set to start in just a few short hours, the guessing game of when boats should arrive in Denarau has begun.

guessThe ‘guess-timations’ are in, and by the looks of it, all boats believe they will be safely berthed in Port Denarau Marina by Friday the 10th June.

The start canon will be fired by race sponsor John Miller on board the HMNZS HAWERA.

Tom Addis, navigator on the VOR 70 Giacomo is predicting a at 0700 on Tuesday 7th June, four hours ahead of the offical ‘guess-timation’ time of the ORMA 60 Team Vodafone Sailing.

Boat captain Stuart Mackinven corrected a previous ‘guess’ of Monday lunchtime was a little far fetched.

“I think a Tuesday finish is a little more optimistic!” said Mackinven whilst getting the boat packed for the final time before departure.

While some boats put a lot of time and thought into their guess, others were more blasé.

Chris Skinner, navigator on Evolution Sails Hupane said that the whole crew needed to be in on the time they gave.

“Yeah nah I need to talk to the guys first, there are too many different opinions so we need to talk this one through,” said Skinner.

Blink navigator Craig Shearer wouldn’t give their time until he spent a few hours studying the predicted wind patterns, current and phase of the moon.

“I’ll go and do some serious stuff and come back to you,” said Shearer.

Notorious went for 6 days, 6 hours, 6 minutes and 6 second.

“We are Notorious after all!” joked the crew almost in unison.

The goal for all boats is to be finished prior to the prize giving which is set for 1800 hours on Saturday 11th June.

The Royal Akarana Yacht Club Race Committee wishes all competitors the best of luck and a safe passage.
